On the previous Southern Star, Alabama bounced out of their mid-'80s rut, and their winning streak continued on Pass it on Down. Like any of their albums, there is a fair share of filler, but that's outweighed by the best songs on the record, particularly the hit "Down Home."

My Home is in Alabama
I'm not a huge country fan, yet my girlfriend is. Every now and then we'll throw on an album from Alabama. For some reason, I this thing for Southern music and Alabama delivers! Their debut, released in 1980, generated interest with singles like "I Wanna Come Over", "Tennessee River", "Why Lady Why" and the title track.

Honkin' on Bobo
Aerosmith's much anticipated blues album. Twelve tunes covering blues greats like Sonny Boy Williamson and Willie Dixon. Aerosmith being a blues based band, this sounds like a grand idea! Somehow, this albums seems to fall just short of it's goal, lacking bite. Nevertheless, it's their best album since 1993's Get a Grip.

Nine Lives
The 12th studio release from Aerosmith. The band incorporates Eastern influence into their music. Not a bad idea, yet they lost their bite that I admire the most from Aerosmith. Nevertheless, this album became another big seller, spawning more hits like "Hole in My Soul", "Pink" and "Falling in Love (Is Hard on the Knees)".

Woodstock '94 Saugerties, New York 8/13/1994
Performing to an audience of an estimated 350,000 people, Aerosmith pulls off one their most spectacular shows in their entire career! Headlining Woodstock '94, Aerosmith showcases tunes spanning their entire career. As I was witnessing (and taping) all this on pay per view live, I was simply blown away by the raw energy and power! For the next two and half hours the band plows through killer tunes like "Toys in the Attic", "Draw the Line", Livin' on the Edge", "Love in the Elevator", "Walk this Way", "Dream On" and many more! There is even a smokin' ten minute version of "Sweet Emotion" that includes "Dazed and Confused" and "Peter Gunn"! Awesome!

Get a Grip
The Aerosmith train keeps a rollin'! Another big seller and all around great album! In this 1983 release, the boys from Boston rocks my world with exceptional rockers like "Livin' on the Edge", "Eat the Rich" and "Shut Up and Dance" My only compliant here that the ballads "Cryin'" and "Amazing" were starting to show signs of commercialization within the band.

Pump
By 1989, Aerosmith was flying high on their road of success. So they turn up the heat, bringing the sleaze, the grit and the bite back into their music. The ending result for Pump was the most their hyper-maniac record since 1976's Rocks! Arena anthems like "Love in the Elevator", "Young Lust", "F.I.N.E." and "The Other Side" are sure fire scorchers! The even expanded their song writing skills as seen on tunes like the dramatic "Janie's Got a Gun" and the drug busting hellion "Monkey on My Back" It's a must get album!

Permanent Vacation
The tide has finally turned for the better for Aerosmith. Exiting drug rehab, the Toxic Twins make a shift from the heavy metal like sounds to a more of a blues based album gives the band the comeback of a lifetime! With help from outside writers and MTV, Permanent Vacation shoots up the top of the charts, spawning hit singles like "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)", "Rag Doll", "Angel", and "Hangman Jury". The rest of the album rocks as well!

Greatest Hits
Although a gigantic seller of 11 million copies in the US alone, this compilation is rather half assed. Edited versions of their most popular songs doesn't sit too well with me. C'mon now, "Sweet Emotion" without the ending guitar solo? Plaeese!! The only reason to get this album is get Aerosmith's cover of the Beatles' "Come Together".

Night in the Ruts
Burnt out from constant touring and their excessive life style, Aerosmith soldiered on into the studio only to be back on the road before the album was finished. The band was literally falling apart. Guitarist Joe Perry quit during tour, leaving session guitar player to finish the album. It's my opinion that this album would have been a great one if only the band had gotten their act together.

Draw the Line
The lines on the mirror are starting to show...literately. The excessive lifestyle has up the band
who calls this album unfocused. I think it's a great album! It may be a dark album, yet when the album shines, it glows brightly. Aerosmith takes no prisoners on the killer cuts like"The Hands that Feeds" and the title track. The Lord of the Rings like "Kings and Queens" and the blues jam "Milk Cow Blues" are some of my favorite tunes from Aerosmith.

Rocks
Probably the nastiest, the grittiest, the baddest assed record EVER! It's balls to to wall, first pumping, headbanging, mind blowing awesome! Aerosmith turns up the heat and delivers another classic album under the belt. If tunes like the anthemic "Back in the Saddle", the funky "Last Child" and feverish "Rats in the Cellar" won't melt your face with joy, nothing will!

Toys in the Attic
Aerosmith's 1975 classic breakthrough album, Toys in the Attic is a MUST for any collection! This landmark album pushes their Stones/Zep based hard rocking blues to their limits, matching up to their peers! Stand out tracks like the hyper-lyric "Walk this Way", the talk box guitar jibe of "Sweet Emotion" and the powerhouse title track jettisons the band into the stratosphere!
